<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;"> The respected prime minister of
India described my home state Kerala as Somalia. Thank you <i>sir </i>for the metaphor you have used to describe my mother land. I feel immense
pleasure upon hearing this</span><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">I have heard foreigners describing
Kerala as ‘God’s own country’ from the time I grew up. When there were strikes
and <i>hartals</i>, I thought they were wrong.
But when I went into the backwaters of Kerala and saw tourists enjoying the
natural beauty of Kerala, I realized that it’s paradise. The Vemabanadu lake
and the Asktamudi lake are not just sights for the tourists, but they are the abode
of a huge number of common people who make their living out of the resources
from those lakes and their banks. Yes <i>sir
ji, </i>it’s Somalia. Yes, if you drain the entire lakes, burn whole of those
house boats and stop the tourists from visiting the place. Yes it’s Somalia, if
you stop people from soaking coconut shells in water and prevent them from
making <i>coir</i> out of that in order to
prevent them from earning. Yes <i>sir ji,
Kerala is Somalia</i> if you poison our lakes and kill the diverse variety of
fishes ranging from sardain and `<i>karimeen`
to </i>squids and crabs. We have paddy fields and coconut plantations in our
Somalia, <i>sir ji. </i>If you look down
through the window pane of the business class seat in the flight while you fly through
the skies above Kerala, you might not find them all. We are not from Somalia
unless and until we have a rich soil and abundant natural resources.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">People in cities go to shops to buy
tea bags. But where do they come from? <i>Haan
ji.. Aap bilkul sahi bol raha he.. Vo jo chai aap peete ho, vo aata he hamaara
Somalia se.. </i>Those tea bags come from the estates in the highlands of Kerala.
The hills in the high land regions of Munnar, Idukki, Wagamon and various
regions of Kattappana are covered in the green thick blankets of tea, coffee,
cardamom and pepper. Still, you call it Somalia. Yes <i>sir ji</i>, you are right. It would have been Somalia if our entire
hills were flattened and concrete was laid to cover whole of them to prevent
any plant or shrub from growing up. We have beautiful rivers flowing through
the state. The Periyar which flows along the banks of Thekkady Wildlife Reserve
is just one of our rivers. The broad Bharathapuzha with its broad banks is just
another river in our Somalia. The Meenachil river which provides water to most
of the taluks in Kottayam district needs to be drained and those rubber trees
in our rubber estates needs to be cut down if you want Kerala to be Somalia.
The Silent Valley Reserve and Nelliyampathy hills need to be cleared on
grounds of enhancing the beauty of our State so that we could have it as
Somalia.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<i><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">Sir
ji,</span></i><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;"> I am not sure
if you had seen our beaches. We have got beaches from north to south of the
state. The Bekal beach in the north, holds history and stands up with pride.
The Payyambalam beach in the north to Kovalam beach in the south are not just tourist
spots but something that you might not find in Somalia. And sorry <i>sir
ji.. w</i>e don’t have those pirates like that in Somalia along our sea
shores. Oh! You will neither be shot down nor be looted at gun point while
you are at my home State which you described as Somalia. And yeah.. We have a literacy rate greater than 90%.. I am
not sure if Somalia has that high of a literacy rate..<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<i><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">Haanji..
Aap bilkul sahi bataya gaya he.. Hamara state Somalia jaise hi he.. </span></i><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;">Those who reside in North India
say that Kerala is like <i>‘karela’</i> (bitter
gourd). <i>Haanji.. Hum karela jaise hi he..
</i>Just as bitter gourd, we are slightly bitter. We have got some problems. We
have got some scams. But those are just some small issues. It’s not something
that affects the living of many common people who make their living on their
own by hard work involving lot of sweat. We are not from Somalia. And <i>sir ji, kya aap hamaare state ko Somalia
jaise banna chahte ho?</i> Do you want us to fly half earth distance down there
and cast vote for your party to make my state Somalia? As the nation’s prime
minister, you can transform a state into Somalia or into another territory
ahead of the United States of America. The decision is yours. It’s not just `Make
in India`, but those which are already there in India can also be turned into
something that reap gold or into something that is like s**t. The nation is
in your mighty hands. I wish that you motivate the youth to rebuild the state
and the nation into a developed nation rather than disrespecting its values by
comparing it with an underdeveloped poverty stricken country.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">I hadn't been writing a blog for
so long. I had got no time to traverse through the cob web stitched with my thread of thoughts. During a casual chat with an old school mate of mine, my
blogs came into picture. When she asked me why I didn't write of ‘MOM’, I was
confused. When I had entitled my blog as ‘MOM’, I doubt how many of you would
have thought of your own mother who had carried you in her womb for ten months
and the one who took hardships to make you abler and stronger to be what you
are now. When this old pal of mine had mentioned ‘MOM’, I thought of my own
mother who stays 2900 kilometers away from where I am right now. But my
characteristic behavior to look at a phrase through different angles made me </span><i style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;">google</i><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"> for the word ‘MOM’. To my
amazement, the first result that came up was not ‘mother’ but ‘Mars Orbiter
Mission (MOM)’. India’s leap to Mars though this mission had made us proud of
our nation. I know nothing much of Mars except that it’s a planet in outer
space. Yeah, correct me. It’s a planet in the solar system orbiting next to the
Earth. Yes. Yes. Yes. I had not forgotten what my science teacher had taught me
in third standard. I had seen lot many posts in Facebook appreciating the
people who had worked behind this mission. I do salute and applaud those great
scientists and I respect your work to the core. Let us be proud of our nation
and our achievement.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">It’s the Indian’s common behavior
to offend anything and everything. When India made a giant leap to outer space,
there were statistical surveys to divide the amount spent on India’s Mars Orbiter
Mission to see how much each Indian would have got if it was divided among the
whole population. I had noticed that someone had reverted to one such survey as
follows: “<i><span style="color: #333333;">The
Rs.4.54 billion can be used to give Rs.4.54 to each one of us - a billion
Indians, and that might (hypothetically) feed us all a single meal for a day
(it wouldn't). But after that single meal has been consumed and excreted out,
we are back to square one.</span>”<o:p></o:p></i></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";"><i><br /></i></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">I completely agree
to what my fellow citizen had told. If you are too bothered about the money
spent on the space mission, just try to avoid eating a pizza from Dominos or
avoid a trip to KFC. Why just four and half rupees? You can save enough money
to satisfy the hunger of at least two babies who cry for their one time meal. I
plead my fellow citizens to refrain themselves from doing worthless surveys and
I beseech them to do something that will help India to develop further into a developed
country. When a country is developed, there would be no poverty and famine. In
countries like USA, the fellow politicians shake hands, appreciate each other, support
each other and promote the country’s growth. Here if a politician does the
same, he gets kicked out of his seat.</span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">
<span style="color: #333333;">Shashi Tharoor who had served as an official
spokesperson for the Congress party from January to October 2014 was dropped from
his position in the party on 13th October 2014 following a
disciplinary action for praising Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and his
“<i>Swachh Bharat</i>” campaign. To my
understanding, it’s just the Congress’ suspicion that what will happen if
someone think that their opposition party BJP is more efficient that led to the
disciplinary action against the fellow comrade. What will you loss if you
praise someone when they do well? Dr. Puratchithalaivi Jayalalitha was arrested
for a scam. Right. She did wrong. She was arrested. There were lot of posts
flowing through social media to criticize her. Where were you when she had
opened restaurants whole over Chennai where food was served for unimaginably
low price? Where were you when she had supplied water and butter milk to the
people during the hot summer absolutely free of cost? And from where did all
your fury sprout out when she had a bad time?<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">There are good and
bad times for all of us. To err is human. Can you say that you had never sinned
in your life? Can you ever say that you had never done a wrong doing? If you
look around, even the dirtiest and the wicked person would be having some good
quality. I humbly request my fellow citizens to be more optimistic and to
applaud people when they do good deeds. Sometimes your appreciation can cause a
changeover. There are stories of people who had changed upon hearing a good
word from someone or when someone had shown mercy on them. You cannot baptize the
whole world. Live well. Do well. As Mahatma Gandhi had said, “Be the change you
want to see in the society”. Thank you dear reader for spending your time on my
blog. Wish you a great time ahead.</span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">I am not a misanthrope! But I am perplexed upon
seeing some fellow human beings behaving just like senseless creatures.Why does
someone behave like butchers or cannibals? Attempt to rape, murder attempts,
loot, burglary and immoral activities have become a day today phenomenon.
Newspapers depicts a plethora of such incidents. The news highlights focuses
just upon all these. What do we have to learn from them?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">I have gone crazy upon hearing the opposition’s
perverse utterance opposing all that the ruling party does. I am not impressed
when <i>hartal</i> and strikes kill the
precious office hours. I am mourning since my state is crawling on the haunches
unable to clinch a grip on development in any sector. I don’t see smoke
emanating from the incense for worship but I see cigarette pipes and human
dummy’s emitting the black smoke polluting the state’s atmosphere and the minds
of its people. I writhe and wriggle in such a suffocating world!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">Still, I am not a misanthrope but I own a bosom
throbbing to see a better tomorrow and a better future generation. The
politicians are misusing the people just like the seeds sown in between thorny
shrubs. The people nurture the political vampires and when they become the
ruling heads, they crush the ones who made them what they are! How could
someone involve themselves in multiple scams? I am not going to favor any
particular political party and I cast my vote for someone who oozes passion,
spirit of liberation from the traditional superstitions and the one whose eyes
won’t turn paleupon seeing the ruling chair.Whoever be the opposition, the
agenda is always the same. What gain does someone get through obstructing work
and through destroying public property? Why does someone let loose injustice
and aggression? I gasp not for life-breath but for the spirit of liberation
from the state of dissipation and ignominy. Which river can cleanse this grimy
state?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">When we adopt foreign fashion trends and when we
Anglicize our mother tongue, why don’t we learn to develop and grow just like
them? Why don’t we draw inspiration from Japan who revived themselves out of
nothing? Why don’t we try to learn from Singapore who had developed a lot with
the infrastructure and development? Let me dream of my state with the luster
and shine of joy and prosperity sprouting everywhere. Let the people’s parties
strive to eradicate injustice and aggression. Let us become a quintessence to
the world! We all have miles to go before we sleep and let us move <a href="" name="_GoBack"></a>our country along!<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">I
had been using <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Windows 8</i> for the past
few weeks. I am really impressed by its features and speed. All is well, except
for a few! I don’t want to criticize Microsoft because I am damn sure that this
version of Windows is not going to be a total failure like its predecessors <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Windows Vista</i> and <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Windows 7</i>. The integration of the <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Facebook Messenger</i> and the <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Mail
Box</i> to the start screen is an additional cream over the hot delicious
porridge that’s served right before me.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">But the unfortunate
thing is the monopoly that Microsoft wants to establish is being reflected in
its new OS. <o:p></o:p></span><br />
<u><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;"></span></u><br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><u><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">Microsoft’s Windows 8 doesn’t support Linux to run along with it.<o:p></o:p></span></u></li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">They say that it’s security reasons. But the real
business mind and the impacts of the Microsoft’s war that it had been waging
for its dominancy for decades against Linux operating systems and its variants is
reflected in this crap. Many users who wanted to keep two operating systems are
very much affected by this SECURITY UPDATE that Microsoft had added to the new
OS.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;"><span style="mso-tab-count: 1;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span><br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><u><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">The poor support for Google Chrome<o:p></o:p></span></u></li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">The OS prevents Chrome from executing really fast as
it does with other operating systems. This compels the Windows 8 users to shift
to Internet Explorer for better speeds.</span></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;"><o:p> </o:p></span></div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><u><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">The need for a Microsoft Account<o:p></o:p></span></u></li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">Windows 8 wants its users to register for a
Microsoft account. It’s really hectic to remember what password we had kept for
all the email accounts when we have too many accounts here and there. Microsoft
would have been looking for a boost up of the users who use their mail portals.
I too had created one for it was something that one requires in order to make
Windows 8 handier. I am damn sure that many people who had never been looking
at <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><a href="http://www.blogger.com/live.com"><span style="text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;"><span style="color: blue;">live.com</span></span></a></i> or <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><a href="http://www.blogger.com/hotmail.com"><span style="text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;"><span style="color: blue;">hotmail.com</span></span></a></i>
would be having email accounts in either of them now for the same reason.</span><br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">To
win over the world shouldn’t be through a dominant approach. The real tactics
and professional mind is one that is required for any company to prosper. I don’t
say that Google is everything. But I really like the way they approach the
world. They spread their web presence through their social networking site
called Google Plus. The craze that the world has towards Facebook gave a blow
to their attempts to be established in the field of social networking. Still, I
believe that Google has a good stand in the minds of the people.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">St.
Thomas was the disciple of Jesus who had come to grow the roots of Christianity in India. After reforming in Kerala, he
had come to Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Here comes the controversial aspect. In the
catechism classes that I had attended, I was taught that St. Thomas was stabbed
with a spear while he was praying at Mylapore. After joining for engineering in
Chennai, I had thought of going to Mylapore and to visit the place since I’m
very God fearing and religious. (I’m not joking..:-) He..hi..he..)<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">So,
I had asked the people and had gone to Mylapore. I was shocked to learn that
there was just a temple at Mylapore and not even a popular church. Upon asking
a few people, I came to know that Mylapore has got no connection with St.Thomas
and it was just a myth which I was made to believe without proof just like many
other things which I was made to believe in my childhood.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">Thereafter,
I had thought of using my interactive skills to find the places associated with
St. Thomas and to visit them all. As everyone knows, Santhome cathedral, the
biggest church in Chennai which is located along the side of Marina beach holds
the tomb of St.Thomas. It’s one of the three churches which were built over a
disciple’s tomb. Other churches are the St.Peter’s basilica in Rome where St.
Peter was cremated and St. James Basilica in Spain where St. James was
cremated. A big wooden pole is seen at the entrance of the church from the
beach side. It is believed that it’s the leftover of the wood that was used in
the construction of the church and it’s believed that St. Thomas had planted it
there. The believers of St. Thomas believe that it was this pole that had
protected the church when the severe Tsunami waves had struck the Chennai shore
a few years ago.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">After
visiting the tomb that is located below the church, I had thought of going to
the place where St. Thomas had died. I came to know that it was at <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Chinnamalai</i> (Little Mount) that St.
Thomas was stabbed. It’s believed that he had descended the <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Chinnamalai</i> in pain and had ascended another mount called as the
St.Thomas mount where he was martyred. He would have been that strong, just as
the people of that generation that he was able to descend a mount and to ascend
yet another one and to die on the top of it.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">If
you take a Foreshore estate bus from the road opposite to the Santhome church,
you can get down at Mylapore. From there if you could take a 42B bus, you could
reach the bottom of <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Chinnamalai</i>. You
can see a cave in which St.Thomas had been praying while he was stabbed. You
can enter the cave if you bend your body ninety degrees. Its entrance is that
small and is located at a negligible corner of the enclosure with the St.
Mary’s grotto. You can also find a magical spring, a blood shedding cross and
the foot marks of St. Thomas which are double the size of an average human
foot.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">If
you ascend the mount and take another bus to Guindy, you can easily catch a bus
to St. Thomas mount. If you take a sub urban train, you will have to walk
around 4 kilometers. St. Thomas mount is the place which is regarded as the
place where St. Thomas had died. It’s also the coolest place in Chennai, due to the winds that graze each and every object as its top. You can have a
great sight view of the Chennai Airport’s runway too.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">Anyhow,
I had successfully completed the ordeal of being to all the places associated
with St. Thomas in Chennai. I am happy that I was able to prove that all that I
had learned was not right just as I was taught that Mylapore was the place in
which St. Thomas had died. But to support the people who had taught me so, I
should say that it’s said just as that because the area was ruled by the
Mylapore ruling dynasty.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">N

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13pt; line-height: 115%;">The
CCD is a cool place to drink coffee. It’s the Café Coffee Day. It’s a
restaurant for the coffee lovers and it's similar to Starbucks in US. This blog is about my views, doubts and
findings about the CCDs.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13pt; line-height: 115%;">What
is not clear about CCD to me is why..</span></div>
<p></p>
<ul style="font-family: Wingdings; text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13pt; line-height: 115%; text-align: justify; text-indent: -24px;">People are looking so oddly at me when they notice that the seat right opposite to me is not occupied by a girl while I take a cappuccino at the CCD.
</span></li>
<p></p>
<li><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13pt; line-height: 115%; text-align: justify; text-indent: -24px;">I really doubt whether the CCDs are called so
because the people spend whole of their day there sipping a glass of coffee.</span></li>
<p></p>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13pt; line-height: 115%;">I have heard that the grapes are sour if you can’t
buy it. But I really wonder why people pay so much for this sour coffee at CCD.</span></li>
<p></p>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13pt; line-height: 115%;">I don’t want to buy what I like the most from CCD
because they say that it’s ‘Devil’s own’!</span></li>
<p></p>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13pt; line-height: 115%;">I really find it uncomfortable even at my study. And
how come an IIT’ian can study with lots of concentration at the CCD?</span></li>
<p></p>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13pt; line-height: 115%;">Why does people drink too much of coffee from CCD
even though they are the ones who usually speak bad of the people like me who
takes lots of coffee from home?</span></li>
<p></p>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13pt; line-height: 115%;">Why do they need CCDs in every floor of Express
Avenue (EA) and in most part of Chennai? Is it because the Chennai people are
too fond of coffee or is it because the last wish of the Chennai people is to
drink one last cup of coffee before they bid adieu to this world?</span></li>
<p></p>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13pt; line-height: 115%;">I couldn’t find anyone celebrating their birthday at
any CCD. Is it because coffee is not meant to celebrate the joy? Or is it
because there are sufficient numbers of KFCs in Chennai?</span></li>
<p></p>
<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13pt; line-height: 115%;">Why does the government offer too much of subsidy
(around 50% to 60%) for the stuffs served at the CCD in IIT Madras? Is it
because the intellects over there get some renewed energy upon drinking the
coffee?</span></li>
<p></p>

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">What had
happened to the suspects of the bank robbery case last day? We had read that
they were shot down by the police as a part of self-defense. But the explanation
that the police had given about the issue is not at all acceptable. It seems
more or less like a film story and the facts were not worthy of believing.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Commissioner
of Police, J.K. Tripathy said the police had broke open the front door to gain
entry into the one-bedroom flat. But there were reports in some major newspaper
of the day that its reporters who had visited the site on the day had seen no
visible signs of the door being damaged. The wall behind the window grille
through which the police said the initial exchange of fire had taken place had
only two visible bullet holes on it, that too at the same height, and the TV
set that would have been in the line of fire survived the gun battle intact.
The window grille itself showed no signs of having been hit by bullets,
suggesting both the police and the men inside who allegedly fired shots through
it were excellent marksmen.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Is it
really like that? Are the policemen that efficient? Could they just shoot the
suspects down without missing any bullet or without striking any object in the midst?
If it’s so, hats off to the brilliancy and efficiency of the Tamil nadu Police
forces. But at the current situation, people with a normal brain, just as me could
not believe that. It would have been a commando operation. Why did they shoot
the suspects? Are they terrorists? They were just the suspects and there are
probabilities that they were not the ones behind the bank robberies. So, the
police should have gone for an arrest instead of going for a hunter-prey kind
of role play.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">If the
police were not capable of arresting the suspects alive, they should have gone
for some kind of commando operation. It’s just like what’s happening in a movie
to hunt for the ones who are committing the crimes and bring an end to the
crime thereby. Then, what for is the law in the country meant for? Is it fools
who approach the court and move accordingly?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">I don’t
really understand what’s happening here. But what I would just feel like saying
is that the human beings are not animals to be shot down just like that. They
are to be given some human consideration and the brutal means of shooting
should be avoided at any cost.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">There
are techniques to stop a big elephant from attacking people, by injecting a
medicine meant to make them go sedative. If this could be used on such a
gigantic animal that has got no brain to think and to act, why can’t the police
adapt something innovative technique just as that to stop a person who comes to
attack them with a weapon?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">I hope
that some innovative brain will soon come up with some idea just as that! Hoping
for that, I pray that I don’t hear the news of another brutal killing in the
near future.</span></div>Praveen Vinnyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16196730299012448328noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-157557569736594898.post-5277913897987186312012-01-31T05:45:00.000-08:002012-01-31T05:45:58.047-08:00My Unborn Ancestor!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">My
great great great great great great great great great great great great great great
great grandfather was born on February 29, 1500. He would have been very lucky,
if he was alive now. Not just because he would have become the eldest person in
the world, but also because he would be the only one who has got no birthday.
Funny, isn’t it? Now, at least a few of you may think that I am mad. I’m not.
And what I speak can be the truth and the person whom I speak of can be your
grandpa too.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">On
the 29<span style="font-size: x-small;">th</span> of February in the year 1500, the whole world was following
the Julian calendar. According to the Julian calendar, the day on which he was
born was a valid date since it was a leap year. But according to the Gregorian
calendar which came into existence in the late 16<span style="font-size: x-small;">th</span> century regards
the year 1500AD as a non-leap year. So, February 29 was an invalid date for
that year according to the Gregorian calendar. My grandpa would have become so
special for being a person who was not born theoretically. Unluckily, he is not
alive now!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">The
Gregorian calendar, also known as the Western calendar, or Christian calendar,
is the internationally accepted civil calendar. It was introduced by Pope
Gregory XIII, after whom the calendar was named, by a decree signed on 24
February 1582, a papal bull known by its opening words <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Inter gravissimas</i>. The reformed calendar was adopted later that
year by a handful of countries, with other countries adopting it over the
following centuries. The motivation for the Gregorian reform was that the Julian
calendar assumes that the time between vernal equinoxes is 365.25 days, when in
fact it is presently almost exactly 11 minutes shorter. The error between these
values accumulated at the rate of about three days every four centuries,
resulting in the equinox occurring on March 11 (an accumulated error of about
10 days) and moving steadily earlier in the Julian calendar at the time of the
Gregorian reform. Since the spring equinox was tied to the celebration of
Easter, the Roman Catholic Church considered that this steady movement in the
date of the equinox was undesirable.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">“Every year that is exactly
divisible by four is a leap year, except for years that are exactly divisible
by 100; the centurial years that are exactly divisible by 400 are still leap
years. For example, the year 1900 is not a leap year; the year 2000 is a leap.”<o:p></o:p></span></i><br />

<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";"><o:p> </o:p></span></i><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Let
me come back to the topic, we were discussing. Since that grandpa of mine was
not born, my ancestors after him were also not born. This indirectly implies
that I was also not born. So, what you see shouldn’t be the real me and I would
be some virtual creation that resembles human beings. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Funny,
isn’t it? Well! I’m not anything <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">virtual</i>
as I had just told. It’s like his birthday was shifted to a different day! My
grandpa wouldn’t be able to celebrate his birthday on the real day as he was
born. But the new calendar had conveniently set his birthday on March 10. How
great it would have been, if I was able to say that I have a grandpa who had
his birthday deleted from the calendar and that he has got a new day as his
birthday.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Anyhow,
for that lucky grandpa of mine who would be watching me typing this blog,
sitting somewhere in the heights unreachable, I dedicate this blog to. And
happy birthday in advance to him for his birthday this year!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">

this about you. I had learned about your unfortunate fate just today. I had

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">My
hometown Ramapuram hosted a great festival at the Forane church today. The
cyclone called as ‘Thaane’ had consumed many lives in Tamil Nadu and
Pondicherry. It had also brought rainfall to the southern districts of Kerala.
It had been raining till it was noon. But everything went calm by noon. I don’t
know whether this is to be called as a miracle. It should be a miracle as many people say.
While it was raining in the premises, the clouds drifted apart and the
festive procession and the prayers went really fine.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Until
a few years ago, this had been the festival for a huge lot of people. People
had come from far and wide. Those who are related to this place and those who
had once lived in this place had come for this festival. But when the people got
accustomed to their busy job schedule, they had got no time to come for this
great celebration. Anyhow, this year a giant mass was seen at the place.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">I
expected better management. The crowd went in two lines for the procession. But
at times, it happened like the line broke off stuck in traffic and the people
who went in the front continued with the procession without knowing that the
people at their back were stuck in traffic.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">There
were fireworks at various places where it drew majestic designs up in the sky.
The crowd contained not just the worshippers, but a huge lot of sellers who
wanted to sell off their stuffs. The balloon sellers, the ice cream shops, the
malabar sweet shops, the prayer book stalls and lot many shops filled up the
church premises.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">This
festival is an occasion to meet the people far and wide together under the same
roof. It’s a sort of family gathering rather than a spiritual festival. This is
being conducted on the same date for years and so the regular flow of
worshippers is not getting decreased. The working class, the rich masses, the
middle class and the poor comes under the same roof during this fest. This is
the celebration that people of the region can have at the end of the year to
bid good bye to the current year and to welcome the new year with joy and
prayer.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">The
church was constructed long ago and it had undergone many controversies during
the construction of a third new church. Anyhow, people weren’t talking anything
related to that during the time. The gossips, the chats, the telephone
conversations and merry making went fine among the masses while the prayers and
the rituals went smoother in the other side.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">There
were lots of fireworks and it was appreciable that the people had contributed
too much to the smooth functioning of the festival. A huge amount of money
should have been spent just upon the fireworks itself. The ordinary, the
Chineese and the fireworks of various fashions drew designs and it had been
great fun for the huge masses of people who assembled to enjoy it.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Since
it’s on the way to Sabarimala, the roads were tarred in the recent and so it
had helped the people to reach there with ease. The high school ground had a
huge parking lot and so there was no difficulty for the people to park their
vehicles. The town was shining in the sparkling glitter of the fireworks and
the illuminations. This is something that one should never miss in life. I had
seen people coming from far and wide taking too much of pain just to continue
with their tradition of being at the forane church every year for this
festival.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
I extend my prayful greetings to<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">
all those who had come for the festival and to all those who had made
promises to come.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">And
my hearty New Year greetings to you, my blog readers!<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">The
whole of Kerala is witnessing protests for a common cause that it has never
seen before. The Mullaperiyar issue is gaining momentum with every passing day.
The arrogant stand of the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu is not acceptable. The
state and lakhs of people have been living in fear following the rise of
water-level in the dam and the continuous tremors that hit the area last week. People
are urging the central and state governments to take special interest to
resolve the dam issue through the various kinds of protests.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">We
live in a country which had lost its moral moorings. The devil is rapidly
climbing the rungs. The people’s growing avarice for cash had made politicians obtain
votes with the aid of money. Inevitably, if the person belongs to a family
where the finance had started dwindling and if he is in the brim of the
suicide, he’ll easily fall as a prey to those money giants. The money that they
invest returns to them when they succeed in the elections. They’ll grab all
that their hands could take from the government treasury. The money which
people had paid as the taxes will reach the hands of these people as a source
of income to lead a luxurious life style.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Ultimately,
the sufferers of this money fight hang themselves on to the trees and ends up
their lives unable to tackle their miserable situations. It’s really difficult
to curb a way to eradicate the corruption. Anna Hazare’s fight for corruption
caught media’s attention, but I doubt how far it aided in stopping the cases of
corruption. So I think it’s time for another struggle for the noble cause of
constructing a new dam which may save lots of masses. There are about 35 lakh
people whose life and property are at stake, if a calamity happens. The
governments have the right to protect the lives and property of the public,
which they are failing to fulfill with the delay in solving the issue.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">The
central government should take special interest to resolve the Mullaperiyar
issue cordially. Only a new dam can resolve the issue. The Kerala and Tamil
Nadu governments should join hands to resolve the issue instead of conducting
protests or strikes. I don’t understand the reason why the central government
stood in silence, holding hands, expressing empathy with the people living near
the dam. It’s not an issue that’s happening in Iraq or Cuba. It’s to be paid
lots of attention because it’s happening in a part of the country which is
ruled by the Central government. The governing ministers and MPs are coming
down to the people to beg for the votes during the time of elections but are
not responding when such a tough situation concerning the lives of the many
lakhs of people has arisen.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br /><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Oh
ruling kings, it’s your precious votes that you lose if you are not acting in concern
to the issue really soon. So save our lives at least for the sake of gaining a
few votes in the upcoming elections. There is no king without subjects. So it’s
the duty of the ruling kings to protect the lives of their subjects.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br /><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">So,
please save the people by taking urgent measures to reconstruct the dam at least
for your personal gain of being on the ruling chairs again. I pledge that I won’t
vote once again for this incapable and inefficient government who can’t rise to
the situation and act accordingly realizing the importance of the situation.<o:p></o:p></span></div>Praveen Vinnyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16196730299012448328noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-157557569736594898.post-48299015132539942302011-10-18T23:33:00.001-07:002011-10-18T23:38:59.310-07:00A Kashmir in the hot tropical Chennai<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Hmm.. You would be
a bit perplexed by the title. I know. That’s right. But this is what my 20<span style="font-size: x-small;">th</span>
birthday had presented me. It had been a great surprise and a wonderful
exposure to the world of snow and ice.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">I hope that at
least a few of my friends would have understood what exactly this place is.
Well! For them, “Yeah guys.. You are awesome. I’m proud of having geniuses like
you as my friends!”</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Yeah. About the
‘Kashmir’!</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">This is not the
real Kashmir which you would have heard of. This is not the place for which
India and Pak had been fighting for so long. This is a chill cold place
enclosed by walls and doors. The temperature here is -6°C. You will reach here
if you take a 7F or 7M bus from the Broadway stand in Chennai.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">From my 1<span style="font-size: x-small;">st</span>
year at the college, I had heard of this place. But I had not gone to this mall
because I had heard from many people that if we have to enter this mall, we
need movie tickets. I was not interested in watching a movie in the multiplexes
in Chennai because I don’t wanna spend too much, like 200 bugs for a priceless
movie which I could otherwise watch in my lappy for free in another 15 days. (<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Even the new movies are shown at the hostel.
So don’t say that it’s illegal.</i>)<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Anyhow, I was much
inspired by my friends on that day about a visit to this place and I thought of
trying my luck by entering this mall just to go to the Snow world. May be
because we were lucky that day, we weren’t asked the movie tickets.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">You may know about
a mall. It’s a place with too many shops to attract people and to snatch money
out of their pockets. It’s a place where pick pocketing is done legally and
publicly. Yeah. I had five friends – 2 boys and 3girls – who had persuaded me
to come to this place. You know about girls! They will be easily taken by the
fantasies of the offer boards kept at the shops. One pair of chapels for Rs.199.
Isn’t that a wow? They are rushing for that shop at the next frantic second.
OMG! It’s very difficult to persuade these people to change their decision.
Because the shops there were very deceptive and they were all meant for girls
who can be easily targeted by their attractive colors, snaps and all those
craps.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Well! I had to really
work hard in order to bring them out of the shops. When one wanted bathroom chapel,
the other one wanted party wear chapel, formal chapel for the other. OMG! How
many variations do we have even in the things that we use just to cover the
feet? Yeah! After boasting them for their superb skills in selecting the ones
that suited them the best, they came out.(<em>Actually it didn’t suit them at all.
But I had to say that. Otherwise they will stay in there for the whole day
until I say that they are beauty damsels wearing that.)</em></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Hmm! I thought that
it was over. But it was just about to begin. My fellow beings had told that
their stomachs are burning for their hunger for food. Would the stomachs burn?
Then we could eat uncooked food. Isn’t it? Because it will get cooked by itself
if it’s getting burned in the stomach! Still, if they had said it means that’s
it. No other go. We had to ascend a fleet of long stairs in order to reach the
international food court there. They call it international. But I doubt whether
it’s the same chicken that people all over the world take? Yeah! We – a group
of 6 people – ate for Rs.400. It isn’t a high price in a city like Chennai.
Before getting stuck with their next demand, I just pulled them to the Snow
world. Each ticket costs Rs.150 and when we were told that we will be getting just
20 minutes to spend in the snow world, we felt very sad. Anyhow, no other go.
We have to go and we just went in to collect the shoes, gloves etc. For most of
us, it fitted best. But one of my friends who had got a very slim body (‘a slim
beauty’ would be a deceptive word if I use that to refer to her) found it
difficult to roam around wearing that. Still, she too managed to walk even though
it was very difficult for her to stand on two feet.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">When a crew who had
gone inside before us had come out, we had got our turn to go in. Yeah! It was
fun. There were 50 tones of ice maintained at a temperature of -6°C. We had not
felt that shivering cold since we were wearing the jackets that we were
provided with.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">But when we started
throwing snow on each other and when were made to fall on snow, it was very marvelous.
We had seen a few buckets inside there. We filled in them with the snow and
used them to bathe our friends in snow. Wow! It was really nice to see people
with snow on their heads. Wow!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">We posed for the
photos in various angles inside there. We had slid down the ice peak in a life
buoy. Wow! All was fun! We just enjoyed it. In the midst someone had made me
sit on an ice trolley and had pulled me around. We sat on ice blocks. We threw
ice and enjoyed the fun.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">At the expiry of
the 19<span style="font-size: x-small;">th</span> minute, the lights started to flash and we could hardly see
what was happening. And in another minute, we were told that the time was out
and we had to come out.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Since we were not
allowed to take our cameras inside, we had to get the photos from those people
who were there inside to take the snaps. They had taken around 31 photos and we
had to pay a lump sum amount of Rs.400 for the snaps. It’s city life and we
will lose money just as we look at things.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Hmm! It was all
fun. We sat there. I had my lappy with me. We saw all of the photos which were
taken while we were inside and enjoyed the fun for some more time. Finally, we
took the decision about the photos which were to be uploaded into the facebook
for our fellow mates to be jealous of the fun that we had. I took over the
responsibility to upload them because some snaps required a photoshop touch.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">When we were about
to come out, one of my friends expressed her wish of visiting the beach. It was
just 4:30pm and since it’s the day we are coming back from home, it’s OK even
though we are bit late to reach the hostel. So we went to the Mareena beach and
enjoyed fun in making castle and roaming around in the beach after the kites.
As the night approached, it was felt like some envious eyes were preying the
beauty damsels we had with us. So we took the bus and went to the Chennai
Central station and we took our luggages which we had kept in the luggage room.
But the hunger played the deceptive role this time. We had to invest another 77
bugs for having Chilli porotta from Saravana Bhavan restaurant there. Then we
split up and went to the destinations we had to reach. It was all fun and it
had been the best birthday I had in my life till this time because I had
enjoyed it to the fullest!</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Thanks to all of my

If you are still very curious about my past, you may better ask some friends whom I had during that time. If I have to name a few, it would be difficult for me. The reason is that I am trying to forget those days which I had wasted for nothing. Just like a bookworm or like a computer wizard (as my friends say) I was just spending whole of my time with computer. What I knew was programming, debugging, maintenance and reengineering. I was just like pupae or more or less like a tadpole! But then that it happened!!<br />
<br />
I have now become a butterfly. Now I enjoy the depths of the oceans and the vastness of the skies just as a free bird does!<br />
<br />
If I have to describe that incident, I have to narrate a big story.<br />
<br />
During my +2, I had a very adorable role model, Riji. She is like a sister to me. She had been a motivator and had inspired me a lot in gaining something in life. I had thought of being like her. Since she had joined Sathyabama University, I too took the decision of being at the same university. My first few days at the college weren’t that pleasant. I didn’t feel home sick. But I was kind of frustrated with the new environment and I had felt some difficulties to get adapted to it. The senior folk that we had during that time were a sort of tough guys. A few times they had caught me and they had interrogated a lot about me. They had also used too much of vulgar in their conversation with me. To stand in front of them was really a nightmare for many of us because of the many experiences that my friends had at the college and outside from the so called seniors. In the fear of seniors and in the fear of the exams that were fast approaching the two semesters ended up so quickly.<br />
The 2nd year classes started after a big gap of more than a month. The third semester was the period in which we became accustomed with the mood of the college. I made friendship with many of the third years’ and I was maintaining good relationship with many of them. But still, the final years’ were kept very distant and I had a fear about many of them even though I was no more a fresher. Thus the third semester was also gone.<br />
<br />
After Christmas and the New Year eve of 2011, came that day which changed my life. If I had to go to my college from my home I will usually take the train. This time I had the ticket booked in advance. So did my friend Riji (the role model whom I had mentioned earlier) and her friends. You should not forget that they were the final years’. The only person whom I knew in the 4th year was Riji and I was not close to anyone else. Unluckily for me, as I had thought, they had got the berths closer to that of mine. I came to know about this from Riji, but it was too late. As I had already told, I was afraid of the 4th years and I wished to avoid them at any cost. So I exchanged my ticket with a 3rd year guy, Renjith whom I knew already. He had agreed to take my luggage with him since I was thinking of going by another train in its general compartment. So I gave him my luggage and I agreed that I will collect it from him at the Chennai Central. I did that to avoid my seniors and it ended up in a different way.<br />
<br />
The train which my seniors took had been very late and I took the train just before that. I reached Chennai 5-6 hours earlier than the seniors. I had gone to a few places. Then I came back to the station to get back my luggage from the guy called Renjith, my senior. But he had already shown gratitude to me by telling the 4th year guys that I had given him the ticket to avoid their company. So I was caught red handed at the station. Then I had got all that I feared. (They didn’t do me any physical harm. I feared to travel with the final years’ because I feared that such instances may occur. But when they met me at the station, I had got everything that I wanted to avoid. Everything was for my good. Thank you Shoma chechi. )<br />
<br />
“I have become a human now”. This is what my friends tell me right now. I had been an animal in the past or what??</div>Praveen Vinnyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16196730299012448328noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-157557569736594898.post-72402248664526862762011-08-31T09:59:00.001-07:002011-08-31T10:00:27.610-07:00My attempts to be a good boy!!It was just a few days since my 3rd year classes had started. I was just thinking of sleeping for a bit long since it was the week end. But on that profound morning I was awakened by a call. On seeing the name of the caller, I was stunned. I just thought that I was still sleeping. The caller was a friend of mine who never had the habit of calling me. She was a sort of girl who had whole of her conversations through the text messages. And if she had to speak to me, even if it’s to wish my birthday, she was of the nature of sending me a missed call. I had to call her. But I did that without fail, because she was really helpful in getting my records finished even though it’s on the eve of the examination that I ask her to do it for me.<br />
Hmm.. Back to the point we were discussing..<br />
I just pressed the green button to answer the call and I said “Hello Simi..”.<br />
Yeah. It’s her at the other end.<br />
I asked doubtfully, “Mate, what had happened to you? Are you doing this consciously?” <br />
[I was not serious. She could understand that. Even though I don’t call her very often, she is a good friend of mine. She is the one in whom I can put my trust and she’s really helpful!]<br />
She was speaking as though she was bit annoyed by my question.<br />
“Hum.. If you don’t like me calling you, you just say that. Don’t ask me such stupid questions. OK?? U got my point??”<br />
I said.<br />
“Yes mam’. Thanks for the lecture. Was it for this that you called me?”<br />
You know what? I don’t like people disturbing me while I sleep. I had suffered great difficulty, especially during my 1st year at the hostel. I had a guy called Nirankush Mahanta in my room. He was of the habit of watching movies without earphone at midnight. There were many cases in which he had screwed my nuts. So was another roommate of mine in the same year. He was Sudharshen, a fat Tamil guy. He was of the habit of playing jazz on the bed with a drum stick around 2 o’ clock in the early morning. Since I had these two crazy guys as my roommates in the 1st year, I had learned to adjust a lot and to handle situations with more patience. Even though they had increased my tolerance level, I may lose my temper if a person annoys me while I sleep.<br />
She continued in the same angry mood.<br />
“I had called you for a noble reason. If you are behaving like this, you are not worthy to hear from me.”<br />
This time, I had thought that I had to be cautious. So I thought of having a control over my words.<br />
“Simi, whatz up?? Come on.. Chill!! Why did you call me in this early morning?”<br />
She was still angry over me. She asked “Is this the early morning? It’s 11 o’ clock and its early morning for you, you stupid!”<br />
Girls are like this. For silly reasons, they will catch up the rage and they will speak silly vulgar words that they know. They think that they are reigning over us. But the truth is that, it’s really funny to hear the girls’ speech if they are angry.<br />
I had to accept all that she says right now. Somehow I have to grasp the reason, why she had called me. As I expected, she chilled after sometime.<br />
Yeah. She told “We are having a prayer meeting. It’ll be good, if you could come.”<br />
I said “Wow! I had been looking for such a one for a long time. It’ll be good, if it’s there. Fine when is it?”<br />
She explained me the things and I went for it the next day. <br />
It was fun. The way we introduced each other and the way the time passed..<br />
We learned action song. We sung it. We danced for it. WoW! Superb indeed!<br />
“David ne, Goliath ko, ek pal se maaraa…”<br />
Even though it was the song (I didn’t mean its bad), I really enjoyed it. How good it was as compared to the pop songs of the time.<br />
Hmm.. We had the talk thereafter. Then there was food. Lot of “chechi’maar” were there. I had soon become acquainted with most of them. I had promised them that I won’t miss it another time and had departed with better expectations for the next meeting.<br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";"><span style="color: purple;"><span style="background-color: white;">We had got abbreviations for most of the words, phrases and solutions. It’s common about the mallus to pronounce ‘circuit’ as “SIR CUTE!!”.<o:p></o:p></span></span></span></div><span style="color: purple;"><span style="background-color: white;"> <span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">A moderately literate man from Kerala had once said “I married the cow”. He really wanted to say that he had tied the cow. In the local dialect Malayalam, ‘kettuka’ means ‘to marry’ as well as ‘to tie’. The ignorance of the man about the language is the fun here.<o:p></o:p></span></span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: purple;"> </span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";"><span style="color: purple;"><span style="background-color: white;">But the strong knowledge in the language is not necessary at all for the people living in this decade. I would like to prove this fact through a quintessential incident. It’s the speech of the chancellor of the Sathyabama University that I attach here. I have not altered a word or phrase. He spoke this in a function in which the playback singer K.S.Chithra was awarded the honorary doctorate. On the same day he was honored with the honorary Colonel rank by the Army. Enjoy the fun in the speech of the chancellor.<o:p></o:p></span></span></span></div><span style="background-color: white;"> </span><br />

(PD class)<br />
<br />
We all (including those descendants of eve [I meant those galz..] - the girls) were dressed in Jeans and T-shirts!!<br />
<br />
We had a formal procedure of filling up a biodata-form.. There was a field called 'Introduction about yourself' in that and we were asked to fill up our personal information.. (I mean , like marital status.)<br />
<br />
Me and my friends just scribbled something upon it, but those girls did it with much perfection.. (They always do. Girls are just like that.. Kind of show off.. I dislike that taste.)<br />
<br />
Hmm..<br />
The key speaker collected those papers.. He just went through our papers.. but said nothing!!<br />
<br />
He approached one of those girls and she gave him a manuscript of her biodata. (it doesn't make much difference from a print out).. He was just shocked on seeing it.. I was used with that expression and the comment that people usually say on seeing her handwriting..<br />
<br />
"Your handwriting is damn good, maa.."<br />
<br />
But this time, it wasn't the response and I was totally surprised by the comment that he had said..<br />
<br />
He exclaimed..<br />
"I.. I thought, you were a girl...!!"<br />
<br />
For a few moments, I was't able to grasp what he had said..<br />
<br />
She just retorted by asking, "What the hell do you mean?"<br />
<br />
It's the girl's voice. (You know it. The shrill and sharp voice.. Eventhough it's annoying, at times, I like it!!). She should be a girl. Why did he say so? I too didn't feel that she was not a girl, while we were together.. (Don't take it in that bad sense.. I am not a bad boy.. I don't care even though you think so..)<br />
<br />
Yeah... Back to the point, we were discussing...<br />
The key speaker pointed his finger to that line, where it was written..<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">MARITAL STATUS: BACHELOR</div><br />
Pointing to the word 'Bachelor', he exclaimed "Bachelor!!!"<br />
<br />
Bachelor? What's there in it? There is no reason for her to be a spouse at such an early age.. And she is not.. Then what?? And what's wrong with the gender??<br />
<br />
Then he explained<br />
"Maa...<br />
(I hate this. Tamil people always says this.. It's like how a cow brays, when it requires food!!)<br />
"Maa, it's an unmarried man who is called as a bachelor.. If it's a woman, it'll be spinster.."<br />
<br />
[Oh! I knew the word. I had forgotten it.. Yeah.. Yeah.. But, isn't that the word that we use for woman who are not married beyond the usual age of marriage..]<br />
<br />
I doubted..<br />
"Sir, is it a mistake? I think.."<br />
<br />
He interrupted..<br />
"Listen, my boy.. Today, this had happened.. If this is the way she continues to write, she'll be in trouble for sure.."<br />
<br />
I humbly asked him for the reason, why he said so..<br />
<br />
He explained..<br />
"Yeah.. The reason is.. Think of a place where only ladies, I mean the ones who are not married are allowed. It would be up on the basis of the biodata that was submitted previously that the people are admitted.. In that case.. Think of it.. If they see 'Bachelor', they may immediately refuse it out of no reason for a rethinking in the expectation that it would be a boy.."<br />
<br />
I asked.. (You know, I am very good in annoying people through doubts, comments etc.. Especially the ones who possess a high air..)<br />
"Sir, will this happen??"<br />
<br />
He gave me a glance from the side.. I understood what he had meant..<br />
<br />
I just said..<br />
"Sir still.... I think there is no point in your.."<br />
<br />
Since he was not attending to my response, I stayed dumb..<br />
And the girl, who had to suffer because of his remark, was extremely sad.. I felt like consoling her.. But why?? There is no reason for her to be ashamed. I don't think that she was wrong.<br />
<br />
If you Google it, you will get about 3,080,000 results<nobr> in 0.13 seconds.</nobr><br />
<nobr>Allmost all of them says, that a spinster means</nobr><br />
<nobr> 'a woman still unmarried beyond the usual age of marrying'..</nobr><br />
<br />
Then, I find no point in writing 'spinster'.. She had not yet stepped into youth.. She is just 19.. She had not crossed the usual age of marrying under no circumstances..<br />
<br />
I hope that, she should have Google'ed it like I did.<br />
And if she is reading this blog, let me tell you,<br />
(I am not revealing your name. Let my current girl friends take up that job.. :D)<br />
"Please don't feel bad about the stupid remarks from someone. Let them speak.. But use your brain to think whether he was right. In this case, answer is a perfect "No" and so don't oblige to him by writing 'spinster' as he had said.."</div>Praveen Vinnyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16196730299012448328noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-157557569736594898.post-71869088390153452102011-05-31T11:08:00.000-07:002011-05-31T13:24:26.732-07:00The Buffaloes that fly!!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Don't get excited!!<br />
I was perplexed on seeing the menu board displayed at the front of Marrybrown at the Chennai Central Railway station..<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Buffalo wings: Rs.60</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Do buffaloes fly?? How does Marrybrown dare to sell beef in Chennai? Strange indeed!!</div><div style="text-align: left;">The curiosity that was boiling within me, took me to the counter and compelled me to order buffalo wings..</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Out of my curiosity, I asked them, how does it look like??</div><div style="text-align: left;">To my amazement, they pointed out at the board that displayed buffalo wings. That snap made me feel not to eat that stuff.. It was just 4 pieces of chicken. (Felt like, "Someone had f***ed my a**".. If I speak like this, my friend will say, I am speaking like a 'Tapori'.. Sorry for that!!)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">WTF!! (I didn't say this. But I thought of saying this!! But you know what?? I could control my anger..)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">"Sir, it'll take 5 to 6 minutes. Please kindly wait.."</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">What the hell?? Why should I wait for those worthless pieces of chicken?? I am going..</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Still, when I thought that it was out of my pockets that the 60 moneys had gone out for these useless stuff, a few moments ago, I had decided to have it for the sake of heavens.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I sorrowfully watched the whole process of dipping the chicken in the flour, keeping it in the grilled container (I don't care, if you call it something else..) and frying it.. It arrived into my hands in less than a few minutes with the sauce packets that they provided.. Forgot the tissue. That too..</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I ate whole of it and the remains were just a few bone pieces.. I don't think that even the dogs will have a glance at them!! I had really shown whole of my anger up on those pieces of chicken.. I tore whole of the meat out of it and had eaten them.. :-)</div><blockquote>"I thot it was real beef.... so i approached d counter so much hope and obviously respect towards marrybrown for daring to sell beef in india.... bt i was taken back..... ;-)"</blockquote>says my cousin (his own words), who had a similar experience. We are unheartedly betrayed. They are doing 'daylight theft'..<br />
<br />
So guys, please take a note of this..<br />
